The quest to become rich through
diabolical means has landed a 42-year-old man Samuel Omosoba in police
net after he allegedly beheaded his three-year-old niece on Tuesday.
According to reports, the jobless and single suspect committed the crime at Ilepa quarters in Ikare-Akoko, Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Sources say the suspect earlier contacted a herbalist in his quest to become rich and he was told to get the head of a baby.
Recounting the incident, an eyewitness said: “On Tuesday, the three-year old girls mother, Bunmi took her daughter to her mother-in-law but met her husband’s elder brother at home. He promised to take care of the child, until her grandmother returns.
“On her return from the market, Bunmi met her daughter’s body in her brother-in-law’s room.
“The suspect ‘confessed’ to family members that he killed the girl. He was nearly lynched by aggrieved youths before the police rescued him.”
Confirming the case, Femi Joseph, spokesman for the Nigerian police in Akure said the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigative Department in the capital of Ondo state.
